buss driver

yesterday on my lunch break i was given the opportunity
to drive a buss...when i got to the depot the conductor gave
me some reassuring words of advice "if you stall it, it will
cost u"....i almost had to give him a u. instead i gave him a
20. in exchange for my generosity he was nice enough
to give me a few pointers...like...don't use first gear. @%$#!
ha ha ha, made it safe and sound, and i have to admit it was
even kinda fun. kinda.

9210B

Memorial day in OB is supposed to be one of the busiest beach days
of the year. People arriving in the middle of the night to stake out spots.
Not this year. The news crews don't even have anyone to interview.
Is it the weather? The $4.20 gas? OR is it the beer ban?

SUPER CUTE!!!

enjoy the ride

We said our goodbyes to D&D yesterday. They were
here for about 3 weeks...(not that I was counting).
It's always good to have company because you get
to go see and do local things that you normally wouldn't
(although they did opt out of the bad ass camping trip),
we made it out to the national monument, some random
tide pools, harbor island, LA, and bought a skim board!

I know we say this every time someone stays at our house,
but they were the best guests yet. Made some meals and washed
tons of dishes...thanks y'all (fow some reason I gots me a texas flag
in da mail???)

part 3

Last night was super fun. EJ came to visit and we invited
the crew out for trivia..."think & drink". We musta had 20
people show up, by far the largest team at the bar.

Also managed to score more camping photos.
Our first sandal hike...

straight out of Indiana Jones...

night hike

pic is a little blurry, but this fatty is cocked and ready to go.
intimidating enough in the day time, we ran into this dude in
the dark....''uh i think we should go a different way"

camping part 2 & scare tactics

Like I said, so much stuff happened over the weekend, how could I
possibly fit it all in one post?

K and I created a 'camping box' while living in Austin. Pulling
it out from under the bed was like christmas all over again...
I can't believe how much cool stuff we have. Neither could our
friends. Two items really saved the trip: first, the fire gloves.
fire gloves rock for camping, and can save you from all kinds of burns.
Everyone laughed at first, but they all ended up using them repeatedly.
Second, were the little towel things my mom gave us...just add water and
a little cube turns into a wet towel...perfect for dipping in the ice chest
and cooling off...some guys used them literally all day long.

We also didn't go hungry on this trip...or any time really. We've had tons
of great meat to eat from Auntie S. She sent us a package from Omaha Steaks
filled with all kinds of good stuff. It has fed us, our neighbors, D&D, the camping
crew and we still have the stuffed fish to go...Thanks Auntie S!!!

A shot of the fire pit / the sun is behind the mountains and we
can come out from under the tarps area... K, R & D

Here is another pic of the rescue. Notice all the cops in their blankets (censored for PJ)?
one dude even has long sleeves...don't they know it's 107*? The desert is a tough place
to work.

Yep Suz, if we told everyone where it was we would have to share...
Interesting statistic we read about the place: 1 in 10 visitors get bit.
Good thing we only had 8!!!

full moon party

This weekend we went to a full moon party out in the
middle of the desert. One of the coolest (yet hottest)
places I've ever been...

So bright that you didn't even need a flashlight...

The monkey crew. Only eight of us ended up making the trip,
and K was the only girl. Hanging tough with the boys.

During the day it was so damn hot that we played every game
possible under the tarps...here's a photo of the shooting game...
Here's K with full support from the crew!!!

After game time we would go for quick sandal hikes to a near
by cave or crack or anywhere close by with shade. BUT at night
is when the real fun kicked in. Every night after dinner we went
for night hikes. The first night we hiked to the top of one of the
canyons...probably 6 miles round trip. no light was necessary until
we heard the sounds of crickets....wait...wait...those aren't crickets!
It's rattle snake season boys and girls!!!

Our camp was in the middle of a canyon. No one else around one
night one.

Day two was a completely different story. More hikers and campers
moved into the area during the day. AND went for day long hikes.
In the 100 + temps out side, are you crazy??? Nope, just dumb.
Planes started flying over head, cops stormed the place and a fire truck
joined in on the fun. An hour later, not more than 40 yards from our camp,
a helicopter landed. Dehydrated and Lost...not a good combo for the desert.

the rescue mission was a success!

Oh-yeah. On night 2, part of an Indian tribe showed up, put
a rock next to our fire pit and setup camp where the heli landed.
That night they all faced east, one dude blew an ancient horn of
sorts, and then they all kept chanting the same things over and
over. Enter the spirit world

I told you what season it was. This was a little guy we found shortly
after arrival. someone took a photo of a fatty in strike position...as soon
as i get a copy, I'll definitely post it.

billabong.com

If you are in the office today and have some time to kill,
go to billabong.com and check out the live surf contest...
live from Tahiti. Super cool live footage.

Also, I've started learning to walk on my hands a few
weeks back. Progress is supper fast. *don't try going
up stairs! I can't wait to teach those Johnson kids...

It is going to be 110 this weekend at the camping spot!!!

ok enough rambling for now...

pure stoke

Today must be the first day that K can surf and I have to work.
So K & D hit it up first thing this morning...actually they are still
out there shredding as I type...

Pure Stoke!
We are back to a beautiful weather pattern...pretty funny that the
hottest weekend of the year falls on the one weekend we decide to camp
in the desert. Yesterday the sun was shinning and the waves were
slamming. Today looks to be the same! we'll see if I can't find a picture
to post later.

We did so much shit this weekend it's hard to recount it all.
Hiking, tide-pooling, poker, surfing, jam session, BBQing and
all around partying...

Tide pools on Point Loma

The best tide pools we've found yet. All kinds of things to check out and
no one else around...this is where we will bring u...

The jam sesh...I'm not even sure how may different types of
guitars these two were playing. The funny thing about this
picture is the people in the background. They were having a
party next door, heard all the commotion and joined in the fun.

On a calmer note...
Neighbor J and I planted some strawberries last week...

may gray / june gloom

Happy Friday!
Wow, what a week...I'm glad it's friday.
Since the day after DD rolled into town, we started our may gray
weather pattern...we hear only to be followed by june gloom...
add in some no wave flatness and it's tough to get motivated to
go to the beach. It is nice, however, because it keeps the crowds
to a minimum.

stimulized

today i was (and still currently am) stimulized by our government...
...$600 bucks worth of stimulation...but as the saying goes:
what goes up must come down or every high has an equal low...
I wonder how low I'm going to feel next year when the gov takes
their stimulant back...bummer. will that make the gov stimulated?

Los Angeles

DD came to town this weekend...they flew to town
to purchase D's new used Mercedes bus! purchased
off eBay! Saturday we drove em to LA. It was my first time in
LA, Beverly Hills...saw the sign at least, Santa Monica and a few
other cities. we stopped at no fewer than 1000000000000000000
red lights...BUT the bus made it to SD and the party continues...

Captain Dan

I think this pic only shows about half the length!
more gadgets, knobs and hoses than I can even begin
to understand...a few luxuries I did notice were the
air horn and the porthole...a true land yacht.

what does this button do???
