Knowing is half the battle

Just another day at the beach. Great weather, great family but
not so great surf....reports claiming later this week....

Our house is right on the beach! We have a private board walk
over the dunes and our own pool and hot tub (to only name a few
of the extras). Today I have to work for a bit, but it's a small
price to pay to be on vacation for going on two weeks now. If i would
have know this kind of working/traveling was possible I would have
jumped on the waggon a long time ago...knowing is half the battle.

Modest Mom...
Mom just finished her fourth day of her 600 mile ride and is still
going strong...The organizers seem to get them lost every day
but so long as they get back before dark, mom's happy. She continues
to get compliments every day too, but for some reason only credits
her success to her "bad ass bike"!

Cublets...
Kimberly and I checked out the Shenandoah National Park today,
it was very beautiful...We thought we were doing a 6.5 mile hike
(and would have if we stayed on the correct trail) but it turned out to
be more like 8+. All down hill for the first half and not fun for the return
trip. Anyhow, on the way home we saw a momma bear and three cubs!
All three we up in a tree, and damn they can climb down fast.....enjoy:

PARANOID PARAMEDICS

With all the biking going on around us, we haven't
had a chance to update the blog in a few days...
just hanging out with this crew will make you tired.
These pics here are from the first morning of the
ride. I'm not sure how many teams are hear but I
do know they have a fleet of ambulances, vans, trucks,
cars....you name it they have it. There must be 20 truckloads
of emergency supplies and even more skilled people
who know how to use them.

EMERGENCY SUPPORT FOR WHO?????
Flying down city streets with complete disregard anyone...
Kimberly and I got to drive with a police escort through NY
city, which = record timing!
Mom not even phased after a half day of riding.....

As the Beastie boys say "New York, New York, It's a hellaof a town"....
FUCT yeah it is.......get me out of this "brooklin zoo"....because "white castle
fries only come in one size".....thank GAD for the beastie boys!

Damn its a crazy mess here....its like being in Mexico, Argentina, Iran, the US and
any other foreign county I've been to or seen pics of...all at the same time!

Kinda like New Orleans....

We even managed to get lost (or trapped in a truck stop)!

@#igger, %#igger, *#igger

Chiggers here, chiggers there......
chiggers you don't want to know were!

Well to make a long story short (because I'm ready for bed)
we flew to Austin on Tuesday....and spent the day trying to get
all of the loose ends tied up for work...fun stuff...
anywho, yesterday we spent the day playing with the kiddos...
in the yard...what else lives in the yard??? I think big sis posted
about this before......CHIGGERS!!!!...and they love Kimberly (above).
Mom googled (is that a word now?) chiggers and we have all kinds of fun
facts to share but you just going to have to wait until Kimberly thinks
it's funny!!!! We spent the second half of the day driving, and last night,
and all of today....approximately 1,6500 miles later......we are in New Jersey
or York or somewhere...........

hummmm

While working this morning we heard a loud THUMP
on the window, looking up just in time to see a hummer
fall to the ground. After further investigation we found
the little guy was out cold. Not knowing what to do we
did what anyone would have done....stuck a camera in his
face! and started snapping away. He finally woke up a bit
and I thought his wing was broken so I scoped him up in a
glove and set him by the house while we decided
what to do next...vet?...fox food?....hummmm...later...He
chilled for the next hour or so until I opened the door again;
he must have thought "oh-shit not the camera again" because he
wasn't sticking around to see what was next...

WAKE UP!!!
This Mother's Day we hung out at the house and got some
much needed rest...Very nice.

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL THE MOMMAS OUT THERE!
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL THE MOMMAS OUT THERE!
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL THE MOMMAS OUT THERE!

Yesterday was a beautiful day so we went and played
a round of golf at the homestead with the fam. No pars
for me. We quit taking scores pretty early on so I am
happy to not report any! Ernie schooled us all
so bad that Kim and Lee gave up around hole 15...

Afterwords Berly and I went to a poker game out in BFE...
of course I dominated and took first place and enough
cash to cover my recent scuba mask purchase! Stoked!

Yesterday had to be one of the most beautiful days in Colorado
this year. Kimberly and I went for a jog around Evergreen
Lake first thing in the morning; it was so beautiful that
we went back to the lake in the afternoon for a couple more
laps and a late lunch along the river....

We always see people fishing in the lake but never catching
anything....yesterday we saw a guy with a stringer full of
what looked like the bait we use in Texas. They turned out
to be rainbow trout and I think you can keep them at about
8 to 10 inches. 10 inches o fish minus 2 inches of head and 2
inches for tail....doesn't equal to much more than a bite, but I
guess it's enough to feed the old dudes....

OLD DUDE

Speaking of old dudes (Paul)...when my dad came to visit us,
we took him skiing. Dad ate it hard in some deep powder and
was stuck pretty good when this skier guy came by and face planted
right next to him, "YO DUDE", "DUDE ARE YOU OK?", "DUDE"
"DUDE, WHERE'S YOUR OTHER SKI, DUDE"... as it turned out
the guy had hit dad's ski about 50 ft higher and that's what caused
him to face plant..."I THINK I SAW YOUR SKI UP THERE DUDE!"
he then proceed to hike up the mountain for dad and returned his
ski "HERE'S YOUR SKI DUDE"...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Its Friday.........Its Friday

Tell me what is it that happens when a sibling becomes a parent?
Why don't they treat their kids as if they were younger siblings...
Nurturing them with all the torment that only an older sibling can give?
HA HA HA....piercing their ears with needles instead of a gun...
It's a funny thought that will hopefully carry the smile on my face
the rest of the day.....

Once again its Friday! Can't wait to get out there and enjoy the
beautiful day! I hope the weather is just as nice wherever you
are reading this from.

Oh Deer

I can't believe it's almost the middle of May. We're packing our
bags to leave for Austin on the 15th. From there it's a hop, skip

and a jump up to New York with Mom (who is doing a charity bike
ride from NY to Virginia). After that Kimberly and I will make our
way down to the OBX for a week. A week of fun and sun on the beach
is just what the doctor ordered for this Texas boy....
Kimberly is already doing her wave dance (similar to her
snow dance) I'll see if I can't sneak a pic...PRAY FOR SURF!

Not much new and exciting in our Colorado living today.
Last night I slaughtered the family in some poker, but that's

about it.

table for who?

We woke up to more snow this morning; I can't believe this
stuff. It's super heavy, not like the light fluffy stuff we had
earlier this year; which made me wonder...how much water
is in that snow?
did you know...
that...
The average snow to liquid ratio is 10:1 (10 inches o snow = 1 inch o water)
The average ratio for wet snow is 5:1 ( the crap we have right now)
The ratio for dry snow can be as high as 30:1

April showers bring May showers

We headed out to Colorado Spring yesterday for Kimberly's
aunt's graduation. Afterwards we went to Jeff & Jules' house
and played a little Texas hold em. Dale thought his pockets 10's
we're good enough to win...

...but how can you beat this poker face???

When we came home this morning we were treated with
+/- 1 ft of snow and a cable wire down in the driveway.
Then we were even more not so pleasantly surprised to find out
the the power was out too.

We decided not to let the lack of power get us down and packed
the car for the mountain. It was an amazing spring day...riding on
powder in May!!?? It snowed most the second half of the day and now
that were back home it has been snowing hard for the past two hours.
The good thing though, in case you can't already tell, we got our power
back!!! And oh-yeah how could we not go tomorrow!!?

to ride or not to ride

Yesterday we worked from home all day....very exciting...
Luckily we had a crew of mule deer to hang with. We must have
walked within 15 feet of them, without seeing them, on our way
to pick up the garbage can from the bottom of the driveway.
Dragging the can back up they all stood up but didn't split...
then they came up to the house and posted up the rest of the day.
Usually I would have snapped a pic for you, but not this time...

It's May and the mountain is still open....it's also Friday and I don't
have ship to do....time to get high in elevation and get some May riding in!!!

smells like bacon

Tuesday night we went to see Rodrigo y Gabriela play,
it was amazing. These two rock....they jam old skool
hard core songs on acoustic guitars...have you gone to
their site yet??? You will like it

Comment response:
Yo Suz I could do 9 days camping too (but fortunately
I don't have to do it with 2 rug rats)...getting caught
off guard with no power and 2.5 feet of snow is not camping;
Its like totally different, OK? I hope y'all are having fun
with the Pops.
