lessons to live by

Today after work we met Suz and the three stooges at the pool.
One of the little boys brought balloons and everyone was filling
em' up and throwing em' around and popping em' and crying
about em'...mines too small or maybe not the right color or maybe
I just want two. Anywho. So Retta showed up at the house smiling,
showing off her pink balloon that she so carefully guarded...and I was like:

C: "put it in the car."
R: "No."
C: "Put it in the car."
R: "No."
C: "Put it in the car cause I don't want to clean it up! When it Pops!"
R: "Mooom, can I put it in the sink?"
S: "sure"
C to K: "yep"

So this is my sink after everyone was gone. I see the remnants
of Retta's balloon, my last two rolls soaked and no Johnson's.

OK so lets be serious for a minute because we've been
eating some seriously good food. Yesterday Suz cooked
up some possum (Paul says mystery meat) tacos that we're
off da hook, or maybe the trap...who knows. Tonight Mom
cooked up some great Persian food and we all ate on the floor.
We had tons of rice and salad and (Kimberly pay attention)
Maast-o-Khiaar and Joojeh Kabab and Tahdik and
eggplant stew with lots of namak. Umm Umm Great.

and i dont even know her name

Tonight while watching a movie with the girls, mom's cat
(who I'm not sure has a name (besides cat)) started acting funny.
The next thing we saw was a scorpion crawling across the floor.
We've heard a lot about these little buggers but this was a first
encounter. We're liking the cat more and more every day!

These little suckers even glow in black light....maybe not
black light with a flash...i think you can click the picture to

On another note: I just read that Danger Johnson started using
the real potty tonight. This might be an exciting new step, but for
me it means I get to have a port-a-potty in my room a little longer.
I wouldn't complain but Kimberly won't let me use it at night instead
of walking all the way to the bathroom.

so long sucker

We spent the past week in Port Aransas. Caimee sacrificed herself
for us by staying at Jason's for a week and gave us her hut, a block
from the beach. Every afternoon our friends would come over and
we would hit the beach, then hit the pool and then hit the bong (actually we
just ate BBQ but I don't think you can take hits of BBQ)...maybe BBQ sauce.
Every afternoon felt like a Friday and every morning a Monday.

Here we are improperly using the life saver rope as a volleyball net...
sorry mom. No kids to rescue with this flotation device. I did have to
save one of Nick's friends from drowning at the beach though....we all
went for a swim when Jamie (a 250 lb guy) turned to me and said the
magic four letter word...or maybe a few of those magic four letter words
like: fuck and help and shit and finally a thanks when I pulled him in to shallower
waters.

Lela, or Lila or maybe she spells it differently, brought her guitar
to one of the BBQs so we all had to rock out

Saturday is a Rugby day!

On Saturday we went to the Annual Corpus Christi Crabs rugby
tournament and this was the first time I didn't play on the crabs team.
Instead a crew of us got together and entered the tournament under
the name Zack Attack. And well guess who F-ing won? These 10 badass
mother f-ers.

I also won the best hair contest...

yoga yoga yoga

or maybe it's just called yogayoga. I think yoga^3
sounds better though. That's where we went today
on our lunch break. We didn't do the usual ashtanga,
we tried out hatha instead (because it was the only
noon class offered today, not because we we're feeling
adventurous). Not near as good of a class as ashtanga.
Much slooower and not near as flowly. Is flowly a word?
Can you believe it's me blogging about yoga instead of
Kimberly? Ha! Our next class will be in Port Aransas
next week...Kimberly called it "gym yoga".................
yoga yoga yoga

Last night we stopped down town for some live music.
we saw or heard a decent blues band fow free. I love
free music. Suzy turned down the invite for a movie.
what's in store for tonight????????????

NASA ORGANIC SURF

One of my friends or friend's parent or something
like that is a rocket scientist. He doesn't work for
NASA but he works for similar companies...companies
that he probably can't talk about. Anywho, I read this

article the other day about how much the toilet system
is going to cost that NASA is purchasing from the
Russians (I think it was something like 19 million bucks).
When I told Mr. Rocket Scientist about NASA taking

expensive shits, he replied "yeah but you can make beer
from it." So my point is (as if there could actually be
a point) that in the future, when we can all travel space,

we will only be drinking dark beers like Guinness or
Young’s Double Chocolate Stout or whatever you
can make out of that stuff!...no more beer from

"natural spring water"...

Speaking of natural spring water...who needs it?

Why do we have water purifiers for water that has
already been purified? I take it straight out of the tap,
add a little green food coloring and BAM! Water ready to go!
Today Suz was cutting up some pickles when I made the
mistake of offering some that I had bought, "what the ones
with the green food coloring?" HA! I took a look at her jar

and it even said Organic. All this inspired me to write a poem...
Ode de Organic:
Organic this and Organic that
if it doesn't say Organic,
than not in Suzy's sack!

I leave you with a pic of the surf from Mex. My friend Matt

just got back. I used to go on these trips a few times a year...
now it's been a few years since I've been..................................

no pick, maybe next time

Some times you need a weekend to relax after your weekend.
Today is one of those times. We had non-stop action all weekend
short. Friday we headed up to the concert; Not a cloud in the sky
and no shade to hide in from the July Texas Heat. Who decides it's

a good idea to hold a concert outside? In Texas. In July? As it turns
out the warped tour is not the only concert planed by a dumbass without
a thermometer or a TV....Austin City Limits is 3 days of pure August heat...

Saturday we all needed some cool off time so we we're stoked to have tubing
plans. We we're NOT stoked to drive to the river in a the middle of a downpour.
When we arrived at the tube rental place everyone getting out of the river
looked cold and miserable. What the hell, why couldn't we have the rain a day
earlier when we actually needed it? After much convincing of Kimberly and
crew (by yours truly) we decided to go ahead and rent tubes and give it a shot.
It only rained for the first 20 minutes and then cleared to the nicest day
imaginable. Too bad no one put on any sun block because no one actually
believed it was going to clear up...Troy's girl, Becka, is pretty fair skinned so we
started asking people for some block. The first group Kimberly asked were
black and said "we don't got non cause we don't need none, it's natural" or
something like that....which brings me to the question: do black people not
need sunblock? I thought yes but these guys said no.

We spent the day Sunday hiding from the sun, playing some good old
fashioned Texas holdem. Back to work today.

music day

Hey kids, wanna go to the punck rock show? It's finally
here! we get to spend all day outside today, in the heat,
no shade, no work, parking lot, and lots of not so good music.
I think there must be 40 terrible punk (or maybe now they
call it emo) bands and 3 good ones...o-well at least the goods
are greats!

We also just read that the COE is going to open up the Guadalupe
for tubing tomorrow and sunday, before closing it again for next week.
Now if only we could find the new tubing laws...

where's waldo?

we just magically deleted all of our text so lucky for you,
you get the abridged version

Last night we went out to the cap city comedy club
for some laughs. O.K., I know what you're thinking,

but Paul and Suz cancelled, not us! Anywho, damn funny.
The opening performers were all Austin locals and kept us
laughing the entire time. Maira Bradford was the headliner
and she was definitely the funniest female comedian we've
seen. Going back fo show!

The night before last, we headed downtown for some
live music. Kimberly forgot her I.D. and there was no
convincing the bouncer that she is older than me! Well
we made it back to the bar in time to be tortured by the
opening band--we don't know who they we're and don't care.
the headliner wasn't much to write about either......

After the pool tonight, we decided to sit on the deck.
the thermometer read 85 degrees and it was already 7:00pm.
While we marveled about the heat, we saw this little critter--
called a green anole. NOT a chameleon!

49%

I drink 2% milk, eat cream cheese that's 98% fat free
and get 5% of my daily fiber from fruit leathers. But
big sis says I'm only 49% dependable...WTF!?

So here's my question for all you mommas and poppas
out there: would you ask a baby sitter to watch your kids
if the sitter was only 49% dependable?

If I can manage not to come up with plans for this evening
it looks as though big 49% is good enough to watch the kids
and take them to the pool, and...take them to the pool?
Remember I am only 49%!

Maybe I can reach a whopping 50% dependability after today...

birth control...

Enough said.
.
Last Saturday Caimee came out for the WSP show.
Kimberly was a wreck all day because the clouds we're hanging low,
threatening to rain and another cancelation. So to keep her mind
off the weather I took the girls to every Mexican restaurant we
passed...they had margaritas and martinis and even an avocado margarita.
Yuck. The show was great, but with almost every song being about water
and with the entire crowd doing their best rain dances, we didn't even
see a drop.
We're just getting settled in Austin as smooth as transitionally
possible. This weekend Nuckols is coming into town for the Warped
Tour in San Antonio. Punk rock, tubing and Nuckols...never a good
combination!

Panic Attack

Last nights WSP show was canceled due to the heavy rain....
today Panic fans everywhere are, well...panicking. that the
50% chance of rain is going to hold true.

3...2....1....Meltdown

Houston, we have wireless! We had to have the wireless guy come out
today and show me how switch the wires and get things working. He must
have only been here a total of 5 minutes to fix what I couldn't in two days.

Yesterday we had a great 4th O July. It's always a little weird to have
a day off in the middle of the week. the kiddos must have stayed up way
to late because they were a mess today....they played tag team all day. Tag
your turn to cry. Tag, now your happy and my turn to cry. Tag. Tag. Tag.
Can I be it?

Kimberly trying to dodge being tagged!

For your reading pleasure...
Since I couldn't post for a few days here is the text I was going to post
We finally made it to Texas....that is, back to Texas. Now let me tell you,
It's hot. But the heat isn't even the bad part, it's the humidity. It must be
humid times 100 or maybe humid from the integral of 1 to infinity
(it doesn't really matter which formula you use because you will always
get the same answer). They claim rain every day for the past two weeks.
It is definitely the greenest Texas July I've seen.

We're staying at my Madre's casa "casa de la abuelita". I'm not even sure
what that means so maybe the big sis can post a translation? I'm sure it
could be just as easy to ask her but it's nap time and I don't want to wake
up the chitlens. Now is only I could get that damn Internet to work?

packing day

I don't know what the deal is with us and procrastination, But
Kimberly and I always seem to be packing last minute...we have to be at the
air port at 5:30 tomorrow morning and we haven't packed a thing...so here it
is the day before we leave Colorado for a few months and we're scrambling
around packing and doing laundry and cleaning and repacking. Did I mention
we have to be at the air port at 5:30 tomorrow morning? That means we
have to leave the house by 4:30, latest. That means we have to be up by
4:20, latest. We arrive in Austin around 10 and then it's going to be a
scramble to start working by noon...we'll see how that goes though.

Speaking of packing... it's amazing how much more cloths Kimberly can fit in
her suite case. Her clothes are so small that for every shirt I pack, she can pack
5 - 7. And every pair of pants I pack, she can at least pack 4...luggage
restrictions are 2 checked bags @ 50 lbs each...so we're each taking right at
100 lbs of clothes! Plus our two carry-ons per person...I'm not sure how we'r
e going to navigate the airport yet, but we'll try to take a pick
