KO

The other day Mom surprised us with gym memberships
to Golds Gym. Kimberly was super stoked, but I braced
myself for what I knew was to come. You see I never go
to gyms, I go play. But Kim keeps reminding me that the
few days of surfing and rugby I've had the past few months
just don't cover it. So what do you think we did today for lunch?
That's right, we went to the gym.

Now before I go on I'm not sure I should. You see, Suzy started a
whole new blog when she did her diet/fast/cleansing thing. So do I need
a workout blog to tell you about all my workout stories? Hum....no.
So. So, we worked out today and Kimberly kicked my ass. My dad
is going to be super stoked to read this. He's been trying to get me to
work out for the past 30 years (premeditated workout?).

when the surf gets good...

When the surf gets good in Texas, several things happen. One of the most
common things to happen is, well, our sandbars can't handle the wave size.
That is, our coast line sucks, the sandbars are shifty and anything over about
5 or 6 ft just washes through our beaches without giving us much to surf on.
Our solution...jump off the nearest jetty into the deep ship channels. The jetties
help funnel in the waves onto more stable sandbars (because they are protected
by the jetties). While we didn't do any of this in Corpus, the folks down on
South Padre Island did plenty of it during the last dean swell.

After catching your fill of great waves....you have to look for a new challenge;
shrimp boat racing. The guy shown in the pic below (Morgan Faulkner) is one
of the better surfers to come out of Texas...

Last night we went to Mom's EMS Memorial bike ride party, banquet,
or ceremony; I'm not really sure what it was called. We had some good
snacks, good beverages and good company. They had a slide show and
Kimberly and I were debating weather or not we made the show...so ofcourse
we had to make a bet. she betted against us having a pic in the show and so I
was forced to bet the other way...After they showed a section titled "new friends"
(which we didn't make it into), we started discusing the bet (we figured if we
didn't make the friends section we wern't going to make any section).
About that time a "support" section came on and mom came over and asked
us if we saw our pic??? What our pic? WTF? We watched the entire show
looking for ourselvs and looked away at our moment of glory...

ain't no surf in texas................................ what about hippies

Mom wanted to see some barrel pics of the surf but instead you
can see the mystical barrel pics of what is my hair.
The top pic shows how hollow the curls are on my head.
This morning they connected from the front all the way to the back;
making a hollow "barrel" in my hair. The bottom pick lets you see
just how far this "barrel" actually goes.

So now I'm thinking to myself.... "!#&$^%(^*()~#$&#*@~~~~~~~~"
which translates to "what if my hair had taken the shape of the Virgin Marry?
Would I call the catholic church and let people come and see my miracle???"
"Would they come? Would they call it a fake??" but I came to the realization
that it would probably have to be a sweat stain or maybe a potato chip or a
strawberry swirl or something crazy to get any attention...but what I have is
a wave not a religious shrine. so maybe I'll call surfrider and see if I can't show
up at their promotional events. I could let people take pictures next to my hair...
proof that even Texas has tubes!

OK on another note:
Last night Kimberly and I went to the liquor store to grab some margarita mix.
On the way we talked about liquor store hours in Texas vs Colorado and I was
explaining how in TX I thought all liquor stores close at 9. Kim was going on about
how CO has way more hours or something, but I remember the CO hours
being pretty similar...so we need some help from our CO family, hours please?

OK back to the story; While at the counter paying, this older lady, who seemed like she was the manager, came up to talk to us...at first we thought she was making sure the clerk had checked our IDs (who didn't by the way), but was just saying hello.
Kimberly asked her what the store hours were and she replied "9, where are you from?"
HA! Kimberly told her Colorado and we started to leave when the lady said "Yep, I pinned you as a California hippy girl" or something hilarious like that. end.

*blogger doesn't recognize hippy in its dictionary

Flugtag shmutag

~ we made it back to austin yesterady morning, unloaded
~ all our crap and took a nap. got up just in time to make it
~ to mom's bbq @ the fire station. some of the best burgers
~ and peach pie we've had in a long time. with our bellies full
~ we drove downtown or to some part of town to watch the
~ redbull flying contest -> flutag. pretty cool at first but got
~ lame and lamer by the minute. don't get me wrong it could
~ have been fun, but not really. no one made it more than about
~ as far as they could jump. it turned out to be more about dancing
~ like a fool then foolishly trying to jump off the launch ramp with
~ your parade float. Anywho a good nights rest and time for bbq#2.

mom asked about surfing pics but we were too busy surfing to take
any. as soon as someone posts some on the net i'll be sure to infringe
on the copyright laws once again so that you too can see what the
waves looked like...

corpus blogging

Suz says we never post a blog when we're out of town, so this ones
for you kid.

We made it to Coprus Wednesday afternoon in time for some good
sized surf. but the wind had picked up so it was pretty much victory
at sea. Today we surfed all day long, and Kimberly is improving with
every wipeout. She even made it out to the outside with us for sesh.

any who, the wrath of dean on the corpus coast...

Oh yeah corpus christi has the best Internet service...the entire
city has wireless; i'm writing this from the seawall, where are u?

hurricane dean here we come so sue me

We delayed one day of the hurricane dean surf so that we could
help shaparone the kids at slitterbahn or however you spell it.
Normally i would look it up but we're in a hurry to leave and
here i am in a hurry to update thus damn blog....how dumb.
those kids wore us O-U-T-OUT!

Anywho I checked the surf today and thought I could just work
it off..."there's always next time" I thought...But after a few
phone calls and surf cam checks; here we are throwing cloths in
the bags, finishing up some last minute office stuff and preparing
my files for a 3 hour work session in the car. Mobile work ROCKS!
Surf this after noon and then tomorrow is supposed to be the day!

here's a pick of the surf today! I wonder if these people will try
to sue me because I'm taking pictures off their sites???
Copyright this and copyright that; i say fuck that crap!

texmex

looks like hurricane dean is going to miss texas completely. not quite
the ideal situation (ideally dean would sit in the gulf for a few days before
turning and wiping out florida), but it will give us some surf and protect
our homes. maybe if he hits, and cruses along, the tex mex border, he
could create a trench along the border and thus eliminating the need
for the border fences?

this weekend it's more what didn't we do? i went with suz and
the kiddies to a play "sleeping beauty" while mom and kim body
pumped it up. then we all went to the farmers market and bought
some of the best apples and played our first round of golf since back in texas.
well it was kinda like golf; it was pitch n put par 3. a muddy little
course, but enough tree cover to help beat the texas heat.

we haven't posted many picks of the family, but for some odd
reason we haven't taken many...this was a dinner with the fam
a few days after suz moved into her new house...

scuba lessons or workout instructor classes, the list just goes on
and on. Just in time for no surf this weekend. hurricane dean
should bring us some more waves next week. work this weekend?
or time to swim upstream?

terry sent me this pick from our trip to port a...

capitol city rerun

Last night we took Pancho, Whitney, Troy and Becca to the
capitol city comedy club. Not very impressive this time.
Much of the same jokes from the same people, just not as
happy because there were only 50 people there tops. the
company was great but other than that not much else to say.
Oh-wait, parents give us props, we took a cab to and from downtown
last night. better to be safe than sorry...anyone dying to reimburse???

beach dreamin' - this pic is from the surfcam located on Bob Hall
pier in Corpus Christi. They have these cameras up all over the world.
It's supper cool because they refresh every few minutes and some even
have streaming live video. you can watch the surf in Hawaii, Mexico,
France, Indo...and Texas all at the same time...The waves from Erin
are only going to be mediocre at best and very short lived.

Now Dean on the other hand is a machine...he's going to bring
us some great waves before and after his destructive path...
batten the hatches and raise the sail...or something

Political Point
from here on out I'm going to start posting a "political point"
on our blog. this is aimed to piss off, anger and generally offend
(so that means Kimberly has nothing to do with this and I'm actually writing
this while she is sleeping so she can't edit it away).
Its a one sided box really. If this sounds like fun to you then read on, if not
consider yourself warned and stop reading.

Still here? are you sure?

really? maybe you should reconsider...

no really.

but seriously. I'm about gun control, birth control, no abortion control,
dumbass control not erection control...and it's in my system of beliefs
to push my thoughts on you...mind control.

I had no idea that anyone would ever think about re-electing Shrub.
we've actually heard people say "I would re-elect Bush for a third time
if possible." wha wha wha what? Are you fu fu fu fucking kidding me?
Nope.
Why?
Well Clinton closed lots of bases and if it wasn't for those base closures
then 9/11 would never have happened.
WTF? are you serious? I don't even know what to say to that.

but that's what I love about this country, my country (which i really do
love and feel grateful that I was raised here) freedom of speech. its amazing
shit. no shit. shit. capish?

after all that a waterfall sounds nice.

week in review

One of my boys joined the Airforce when we graduated high school
(actually two of them did but Rick is now out and in the border patrol).
Pancho! The only white kid you will ever meet named Pancho.
He's been all over but now it's his turn to go to Iraq. So Thursday
night we went to Lake Jackson for his party week home...

Pancho still thinks he can surf! and now is his time to prove it,
we have our first storm in the gulf! and another on the way!
~~~~~Surfs up dude~~~~~~
After many shots to the "war on terror" and "Iraqi Freedom",
I had to prove to Pancho that even after 7 years in the Airforce
he still can't kick my ass! I think we even raced at some point.
So it means the girls had nonstop entertainment
And back in Austin: This morning before going to mom's body
pump class, mom had to take out Kimberly's stitches...
Waves are gettig good so we'll back on the road soon to LJ
or maybe Corpus? You think they have wireless internet in South Padre?
Oh-deer
One last thing before we go...Suzy was buggin me a few weeks
ago about not putting more wildlife picks on the site. These
three (only two shown) guys came into the yard this morning
to check out the compost. The gate is usually closed, but since
the puggers aren't here I've left it open for only a few days now.
We've been missin out on the action...
time flys when your having fun
Every week has gone by extra fast since we started our trip
around...around and around we go, where we stop no one knows!
(well, it will be by the ocean...) I can't believe how fast time flies:
We've already stayed in Colorado for 6 months, NY for a week,
the OBX for a week, Austin so far about a month, a week in Port
Aransas and today we're going to Lake Jackson for the weekend.
Not to mention all the stops in between. Life is good!
And this week I had a job offer!!! It wasn't quite right (so I'm
back on the hunt), but after numerous applications and cover
letters it sure is nice to know that there are real jobs to be had
for a water-loving marine scientist.
a pic is worth a thousand words
Staying at Mom's house is pretty funny. Every time something
new and exciting or scary (or anything really for that matter)
happens, it involves or affects Us, Mom and Suz...So that means
threes times the reading pleasure for you (who ever you are,
and assuming you read all three).
So here is our side of the story. 1st off Thank Goodness that
Mom was here when it happened; I don't think there could have
been a better time to get hurt. Its great to have the best paramedic
in Austin at your disposal. Thanks Mom!
Back to the story at hand: Health Care Sucks! If you are well
off; then health care is good. If your a poor piece of shit who
uses the health care system as your taxi service and drug fix;
then health care is good. If you are any where in between;
fuc%ing health care sucks because its damn expensive.
end of story
wound picks....
OUCH! I had to throw this one in there.
It's all good, Kimberly can still laugh it off.
*notes from Kimberly:
1). the care itself was good. not complaining about the care
just the cost.
2). stitch count = 6.
3). if everything works in 3's then I'm done with the bad luck
which means my job interview will be great today
4). the real story can be found at
Give Blood Play Rugby
I've played on the Corpus Christi Rugby Football Club: "The Crabs"
off and on for the past 6 or 7 years (it was great getting to kick
there ass last weekend.) Anywho, Austin has a team the Huns
with all kinds of levels of teams to play on. I think I'm going
to go check out their program sometime soon AND SINCE
SO MANY PEOPLE ARE READING OUR BLOG HERE IN
AUSTIN, MAYBE A FEW OF THESE DADS SHOULD COME
PLAY TOO!!! Now accepting all applications.....
Summer 7's (seven man teams) in the fall and spring we play 15's...
In rugby, touchdowns are called tries. You have to touch the ball
on the ground in the inzone for the point to count. Here is a good
example of what to do!
LMAO! (for you oldies Laughing My Ass Off (your kids are
probably text messaging crap like that)) or they will be!
